Today's riddle: What do you call somebody who crosses the ocean twice and doesn't take a bath? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Pittsburgh, PA: 29 Year Old Zachary Smith Reported Missing After October 8 Sighting (theunionstar.com) — A 29-year-old man, Zachary Smith, has been reported missing from Pittsburgh after last being seen on October 8, and his family is urgently asking local residents to watch for him. He has a pronounced limp from recent hip surgery, extensive tattoos, and may be traveling on foot or by transit without money or housing. Anyone who thinks they see him is urged to call 911 or the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, rather than approach directly.
2. Rickard Rakell lifts Penguins over Stars with shootout winner (statenews.net) — Penguins fans in Pittsburgh saw Rickard Rakell bury the decisive shootout winner as the Pens edged the Dallas Stars 2-1 at home. Connor Dewar scored in regulation, while goalie Arturs Silovs stopped 24 shots and sealed the victory in the shootout. Despite going 0-for-5 on the power play, Pittsburgh snapped a three-game skid in a tense finish.
3. Rigoletto (pghcitypaper.com) — Pittsburgh arts fans can catch the opera Rigoletto at the Benedum Center in Downtown on Friday, October 16, and Sunday, October 18, with tickets ranging from $10 to $195. The production follows the darkly twisting story of a court jester, his powerful duke employer, and the duke's dangerous pursuit of Rigoletto's daughter. It's a chance for local residents to experience a classic opera close to home.
4. Pittsburgh Regional Transit plans temporary technology systems outage (wpxi.com) — Pittsburgh Regional Transit will take most of its technology systems offline starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, to move its primary data center, which could disrupt real-time bus and rail information. The main website should stay up, but TrueTime and apps using PRT data may be unreliable, and customer service will have limited tools. Riders across Pittsburgh are advised to expect intermittent tech issues during the seven-to-ten-hour maintenance window.
5. Pittsburgh coyote gets wedged between alley walls before being released in the woods (thecooldown.com) — A coyote recently became wedged between alley walls off Atwood Street in Oakland, prompting Pittsburgh Animal Care and Control to spend hours rescuing and relocating it to nearby woods. City officials say the incident highlights how coyotes and other wildlife move through dense Pittsburgh neighborhoods, and they're reminding residents how to respond safely if they encounter these animals. The guidance stresses staying visible, making noise, and never running away.
