PITTSBURGH, PA — After a 60-day warning period, the city's automated red light camera system is now being enforced.
Those caught on camera running red lights at three heavily traveled Pittsburgh intersections now will receive a $100 citation in the mail. Citations also will be given to drivers who turn right on red without coming to a complete stop.
The cameras are at Penn and North Dallas avenues in Point Breeze; Saw Mill Run Boulevard and Woodruff Street in Mt. Washington; and Anderson and East General Robinson streets on the North Shore.
The city will install cameras at three more intersections later this year at South Negley and Fifth avenues in Shadyside; Chateau Street and the West End Bridge in Chateau; and Browns Hill Road and Parkview Boulevard in Squirrel Hill.
Those cameras will have a 30-day warning period before citations begin.
City council last year approved a five-year deal with Arizona company Verra Mobility to build and maintain the automated red-light camera system.
When cameras catch a violation, Verra will send the video to police to review. If they believe a violation has occurred, the Pittsburgh Parking Authority will issue the ticket.
