PITTSBURGH, PA — A unique form of artwork on display at a Pittsburgh-area mall ultimately will aid those with food insecurity.
Currently being exhibited at South Hills Village is CANstruction, a charitable design competition and public art display that features 10 sculptures built entirely from canned food.
The annual philanthropic effort involves local teams transforming thousands of canned goods into artwork. This year's theme is "Blast from the Past: Building Inspiration from the Good Ol' Days," which is intended to invoke memories from decades past while addressing the needs of the needy.
Shoppers can vote for their favorite of the sculptures, located on the mall's lower level near Target, by scanning an on-site QR code displayed throughout the exhibit or by visiting the CANstruction Pittsburgh website.
Following the exhibition, which runs through Oct. 23, the canned goods will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to aid local families facing hunger.
