PITTSBURGH, PA — Amid some of the worst rioting in France in years, the NFL says the game between the Steelers and the New Orleans Saints scheduled to be play in Paris on Sunday remains on.

The game, the NFL's first regular season game ever played in France, says it's dealing with security matters along with local officials and is providing regular updates to both teams.

"Preparations continue as scheduled for NFL events and the game at Stade de France Sunday," an NFL release stated. "We continue to work closely with local authorities and partners on all operational and security matters. We are also providing the two clubs with regular updates. There's been no disruption or impact at league sites.

"The Saints are on the ground in Paris after flying following (Sunday's) game at the Giants. The Steelers fly out Thursday late afternoon as scheduled."

According to NBC News, France officials have asked some cities to impose a partial curfew after rioting broke out over the weekend. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said that country was experiencing "scenes of severe violence and extensive property damage."

The growing violence is part of an anti-government movement protesting rising costs and poor school conditions.

Steelers coach Mike McCarthy said at his weekly news conference Monday that the team remains excited about playing in Paris despite the unrest.

"We're in contact with the league," he said. " We had a Zoom call today with the league office, which is the normal protocol before you get over there. With the whole team. So we feel like we have a really good plan. We're aware of the situation over there and have a lot of confidence in our plan."
