PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department has issued a consumer alert for McKees Mart, on Walnut Street in McKeesport, for numerous food code violations.

An Oct. 27 inspection found evidence of active rodent infestation in the store. That evidence included four bags of popcorn chewed at the bottom corners, and chewed popcorn fragments and bag shreds below the shelving found among numerous mouse droppings.

Chew holes also were found around several electrical outlets. Mouse droppings also were discovered on the floor near those areas.

Additionally, beverages such as chocolate milk, whole milk eggnog and other drinks, were not being refrigerated and their temperatures were above the 41 required 41 degrees or lower. The chocolate milk temperature was 49 and 58 degrees and the whole milk temperature was 60.

A delivery invoice indicated the beverages had been delivered earlier in the day but were not put in a cooler.

To remove the consumer alert, the store must provide documentation of additional pest control technician visits, patch the holes in the wall, remove all rodent droppings and get rid of any chewed products.

If the problems are not corrected within 10 days, the health department could order the store to close.
