PITTSBURGH, PA — After decades of operating in other cities, DiCarlo's Pizza is coming back to Pittsburgh.
The Wheeling-based pizza chain, which had a shop on Saw Mill Run Boulevard in Overbrook in the 1950s, is coming to Brookline Boulevard in Brookline soon. An opening date has not been announced, but the company has been hiring employees for the pizzeria.
According to the chain's website, DiCarlo's specializes in "Ohio Valley-style pizza." It features baked crust and homemade tomato sauce, topped with fresh provolone cheese and pepperoni after baking.
That unorthodox baking method is employed by another Pittsburgh pizzeria, Beto's on Banksville Road. That pizza place also bakes its crust and tomato sauce first, then adds cold, hand-shredded provolone and uncooked toppings when the pie emerges from the oven.
DiCarlo's currently has locations in Ohio, West Virginia and Tennessee.
