PITTSBURGH, PA — Larrimors, the downtown clothing store that has been operating at different locations since 1939, began its going out of business sale on Wednesday.
The sale will continue until all merchandise is sold, but the store will close regardless by the end of December.
Harry Slesinger and Larry Morris opened Larrimor's in 1939 in a 1,000-square-foot storefront in the Union Trust Building. In 2006, Esquire magazine named the third-generation family store a "Best of Class" retailer, the only Pittsburgh store to receive the honor. In 2010, after more than 70 years in the Union Trust Building, Larrimor's moved to its current home at One PNC Plaza.
"For 87 years, Larrimor's has been incredibly fortunate to be part of the lives of so many people in Pittsburgh and beyond," Larrimors co-owner Tom Michael said in a statement.
"This decision marks the end of an important chapter for our family, but we are incredibly grateful for the customers, employees, designers and community members who have made Larrimor's what it is today. We hope this final sale gives our customers an opportunity to find something special while also giving us a chance to say thank you."
Everything in the store is included in the sale. Men's suits, sport coats, dress shirts, sportswear and shoes, and women's clothing, outerwear, handbags and jewelry are all marked 20 percent to 75 percent off.
