Coronavirus Vaccine: Estimated Wait For Allegheny Co. Residents

How many people will get vaccinated before you? A new calculator provides an idea.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A coronavirus vaccine is on its way, but if you're a healthy non-essential worker in Allegheny County you will be at the end of the line to receive it. That's according to The New York Times, which worked with the Surgo Foundation and Adriane Labs tocreate a vaccine calculator that lets people know how approximately how many people are ahead of them in the inoculation line.

The calculator takes information such as a person's age, county of residence, whether the person is an essential worker and whether the person has a pre-existing medical condition. It then determines the number of people that likely will get vaccinated before that person.

In Allegheny County, if you're a 40-year-old health care worker, the calculator offers this assessment: "When it comes to Pennsylvania, we think you’re behind very few others who are at higher risk in your state. And in Allegheny County, you’re behind very few others. If the line in Pennsylvania was represented by about 100 people, this is where you’d be standing (fifth)."

  • There are approximately 23 million Americans in line ahead of you (out of a total population of 331 million).
  • There are approximately 975,200 people ahead of you in Pennsylvania (out of about 13 million state residents).
  • There are about 123,800 people ahead of you in Allegheny County (out of a population of 1.2 million)

If you're a healthy 40-year old Allegheny County resident who is healthy and not an essential worker such as a health care worker, first responder or teacher, prepare to go near the end of line. According to the calculator:
