PITTSBURGH, PA - Duquesne University has unveiled a dramatically different logo and uniforms for its athletics teams. The rebranding ditches tradition for a modernized look that includes a new font for the Duquesne "D" and multiple uniform combinations for its football and basketball teams.

In addition to the university's traditional red and blue color scheme, electric blue and silver will be used as accent colors for what Duquesne in a release termed "a more fashion-forward appeal." In a further salute to Duquesne's Pittsburgh roots, hypocycloids like the ones found on Steelers' helmets - in electric blue only - will be used as a graphic support element.

The rebranding is occurring as Duquesne is renovating the former A.J. Palumbo Center, transforming the building into what will be called the UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse when the building reopens.

"This is the ideal time to reimagine our brand identity," Duquesne athletic director Dave Harper said in a statement. "Having a strong and recognizable mark is essential as we continue to elevate the profile of Duquesne athletics."
