PITTSBURGH, PA — How bad are the Steelers? It would not be surprising to see their upcoming bye week as a double-digit favorite after their 35-13 thrashing Sunday at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Here are what football writer across the country are writing about another anemic Steelers performance:

  • Brooke Pryor, ESPN: "What can the Steelers' offense reasonably fix during the bye week? Every phase needs work, but there's only so much that can be addressed in a week. The offense is inconsistent, more often running a quick three-and-out than a long scoring drive. The run game and 2021 first-rounder Najee Harris are invisible. Kenny Pickett might be taking incremental steps forward, but he's still missing receivers and making costly rookie mistakes."
  • Nick Shook, NFL.Com: "Pittsburgh's offense still has a stalling problem. The scapegoat for this issue -- offensive coordinator Matt Canada -- was identified by Steelers fans nearly a year ago, but things aren't getting much better for Pittsburgh. The Steelers gained 300 yards of offense on Sunday, but converted just 1 of 12 third-down attempts. Three of their first four possessions ended in punts, and a game that was tied at 7 quickly became a 14-point deficit ."
  • Noah Stackbrein, Sports Illustrated: "Following the blowout loss to the Eagles, Kenny Pickett stepped in front of a microphone and, in no uncertain terms, that the Steelers offense is not preparing well enough. He called for them to get back in the playbook and address the gaps in knowledge that led to drive-killing procedure penalties. The rookie Pickett is doing exactly what he needs to do as the starting quarterback of an NFL team. He is demanding better from his teammates when they aren't taking care of business."
  • John Breech, CBS Sports: "The Steelers just aren't on the same wavelength as the Eagles right now, and it showed at various points in Sunday's loss...Philadelphia had four touchdown passes of 25-plus yards. The bye week couldn't have come at a better time for the Steelers, as they look to regroup and try to salvage a season that was in transition anyway."
