'Grim Milestone': Allegheny County Tops 1,000 Coronavirus Deaths
Here are the latest coronavirus case numbers for Allegheny County and southwestern Pennsylvania.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The Allegheny County Health Department on Tuesday reported 29 new coronavirus deaths, pushing the total since the outbreak began last March to 1,011.
"Passing 1,000 deaths is a grim milestone that I had hoped Allegheny County would be spared," county Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen said. "Each of the 1,011 people that have died were loved members of our community. I extend my deepest sympathies to all who have lost loved ones to COVID-19."
The county on Tuesday reported 565 confirmed and probable new coronavirus cases. There have been 56,827 cases since the outbreak began in March, up from 56,262 on Monday.

The 421 confirmed cases came from 1,696 new tests - a positivity rate of 24 percent. For comparison purposes, the latest positivity rate for tests across Pennsylvania is 15.8 percent, state officials said.
There have been 3,264 hospitalizations during the outbreak.

With 20,165 cases in Westmoreland County, 9,850 in Butler County, 9,462 in Washington County and 8,803 in Beaver County, that brings the total number of cases to 105,117 when Allegheny County numbers are included. That's up from 103,697 from Monday.
According to the state Department of Health, there have been 2,048 deaths in the region from the virus: One thousand and eleven in Allegheny County, 435 in Westmoreland County, 260 in Beaver County, 204 in Butler County and 138 in Washington County. That's up from 2,006 from Monday.
