Kennywood Pirate Ride Malfunction Leaves Some Slightly Seasick

Riders had an extended ride on the ship at the West Mifflin amusement park.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The brakes failed on the Pirate ship ride at Kennywood Wednesday, leaving passengers stuck on the pendulum-like ride for about 10 minutes until crews could stop it.

No injuries were reported, but several people reportedly became nauseous during the extended ride, which finally ended when workers engaged a secondary braking system.

The Pirate is 35 years old. It swings back and forth until reaching a height of 60 feet at a 75-degree angle, according to the Kennywood website. It was back in operation later in the day Wednesday.
