PITTSBURGH, PA — The McDonald's location at Liberty Avenue and Stanwix Street has been a fast-food fixture for about a half-century. But that ends at the end of April, when the the restaurant vacates the building and leaves the Downtown area without a golden arches presence entirely.

Nick Nicholas, a co-owner of the building, confirmed the pending vacancy to various media outlets. McDonald's chose not to renew one of two five-year leases it had for the property.

At one time, there were as many as four McDonald's locations Downtown - the one about two close, two on Wood Street and one on Smithfield Street.

Nicholas has said that the next tenant in the building will not be a fast-food restaurant. Reportedly, it will be a bank or financial services company.

However, plenty of restaurants and fast-casual eateries can be found feet away from McDonald's in Market Square. They include The Yard, Chipotle, Moe's, Primanti Bros., Five Guys, City Works, Las Velas, Pizzaiolo Primo, Slider Vibes and Alchemy Bar+ Kitchen.
