Myles Garrett Suspended For Attacking Steelers QB Rudolph

PITTSBURGH, PA - Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett was suspended for at least the rest of the 2019 season for attacking Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph Thursday and will have to apply to the NFL commissioner's office for reinstatement in 2020.

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey was suspended for three games and Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi for one game for their roles in the fight that broke out with just seconds left in the Steelers 21-7 loss in Cleveland. Both players also were fined, and the Browns and Steelers organizations each were fined $250,000.

Per the NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Pouncey is expected to appeal his suspension.

The NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Rudolph, who tugged at Garrett's helmet before his own was ripped off, likely faces a fine.

Garrett tore off Rudolph's helmet and hit him in the head with it. Rudolph called the action "bush league" and cowardly.

Garrett on Friday issued a statement apologizing for his actions.

“Last night, I made a terrible mistake. I lost my cool and what I did was selfish and unacceptable," he said. " I know that we are all responsible for our actions and I can only prove my true character through my actions moving forward.

"I want to apologize to Mason Rudolph, my teammates, our entire organization, our fans and to the NFL. I know I have to be accountable for what happened, learn from my mistake and I fully intend to do so.”

The NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that Rudolph, who tugged at Garrett's helmet before his own was ripped off, likely faces a fine.

Browns owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam said in a statement that they were extremely disappointed by Garrett's actions.

"We sincerely apologize to Mason Rudolph and the Pittsburgh Steelers," the Haslams stated. "Myles Garrett has been a good teammate and member of our organization and community
for the last three years but his actions last night were completely unacceptable. We understand the consequences from the league for his actions."
