PENNSYLVANIA — Democratic U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman raised $22 million in the third quarter, his campaign announced. His opponent, Dr. Mehmet Oz, raised $17.2 million, which included a personal loan of $7 million.

Fetterman’s campaign said that the $22 million is the most money raised by a Senate candidate in a single quarter in Pennsylvania history. The contributions came from 330,000 different donors.

“We’re going up against an ultra-millionaire who has poured millions of dollars of his own money into this campaign,” Brendan McPhillips, Fetterman’s campaign manager, said in a statement. “The people of Pennsylvania have John’s back and that’s something even Dr. Oz’s millions could never buy.”

Fetterman could need that money as recent polls have showed the race tightening.

The two candidates will hold their first, and presumably only, debate on Oct. 25.

Fetterman and Oz are vying to succeed retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey. The race has garnered national attention because a Fetterman victory would be a major step in tipping control of the Senate to the Democrats.
