Pittsburgh Is 2020's Best City For Football Fans, Study Says

Personal finance website WalletHub has found there's no better place to be a football fan than in Pittsburgh.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The injury-plagued Steelers had a disappointing season and missed the playoffs. But with Super Bowl week upon us, Pittsburgh has been named the best large football city in America by the personal finance website WalletHub.

WalletHub compared more than 240 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional football team across 21 key metrics. The data set ranged from number of NFL and college football teams to average ticket price for an NFL game to fan friendliness.

The information used to determine the ranking came from the the U.S. Census Bureau, Team Marketing Report, ESPN, NCAA, Pro Football Hall of Fame,Sports Reference, Forbes, Sports Analytics Research, each team’s website and social media accounts.

Here's how Pittsburgh ranked in several key areas:

  • 1st: NFL fan engagement
  • 1st: Number of NFL championship wins.
  • 4th: NFL stadium capacity.
  • 7th: Performance level of NFL team.
  • 19th: Average NFL ticket price.
  • 25th: NFL attendance.
  • 79th: Minimum season ticket price for college football game.

None of the Steelers' AFC North division rivals were ranked among the best cities for fans. The top 10:
