PITTSBURGH, PA - For Pittsburgh International Airport travelers from other cities, the sandwiches might seem strange. For locals returning from distant locales, they’ll seem like the culinary equivalent of a welcome home sign.

The famed Primanti Bros. chain will open a restaurant in the airport’s center core on March 13. In addition to serving the famous Primanti sandwiches, known for their fries and coleslaw, the restaurant will feature a full bar with a wide selection of draft and bottled beers and cocktails.

With more than 2,700 square feet of space, the restaurant has been designed to resemble the original Primanti Bros. location in the Strip District.

“Passengers have been asking for an airport Primanti’s for years. We are so happy to partner with this iconic restaurant that reflects perhaps Pittsburgh’s best-known sandwich,” Eric Sprys, Allegheny County Airport Authority chief commercial officer, said when plans for the eatery were announced in the fall. “This is another piece of our sense of place initiative – to bring more of our region’s great food and culture into the terminal.”
