Pittsburgh Is Nation's Best City For Football Fans: Study

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Steelers haven't been to the Super Bowl in more than a decade, but that doesn't mean Pittsburgh isn't a great football town. Personal finance website WalletHub crunched the numbers and has named the city 2022's best city for football fans.

WalletHub compared more than 240 U.S. cities with at least one college or professional football team based on 21 key metrics. The data set ranged from the number of NFL and college football teams to stadium capacity to fan engagement.

Here's how Pittsburgh fared in several key categories:

• 1: NFL fan engagement

• 1: Number of Super Bowl championships (tied with New England)

• 4: NFL stadium capacity

• 9: Performance level of NFL team

• 21: Average ticket price for NFL game

• 27: NFL attendance

• 84: Minimum season ticket price for college football game

• 89: Performance level of college football teams

Regarding Super Bowl LVI, which features the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, WalletHub released the following statistics:

• $6,214: The average cost of a ticket to the past five Super Bowls.
• $5,397: Lowest price of a Super Bowl LVI ticket on the resale market three days after the conference championships (29 percent decrease from 2021).
• 60 percent: Share of Americans who say they are unlikely to host or attend a Super Bowl party this year.
• 195 percent: 20-year increase in the cost of a 30-second Super Bowl ad (hitting a record cost of $6.5 million for a spot in 2022).
