Pittsburgh Weekend Guide: Disney On Ice, Big Beerfest And More

PITTSBURGH, PA - Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy set the stage for a star-studded talent extravaganza as “Disney On Ice Presents Reach For the Stars” this weekend at PPG Paints Arena.
You’ll get to see royal sisters Anna and Elsa and the snowman Olaf as they sing captivating songs from “Frozen” such as “Let it Go” and “In Summer.” Sebastian will strike up his hot crustacean band and the Daughters of Triton will make a splash as they introduce Ariel in an ‘80s pop montage. Watch a chorus of harmless hooligans get a visit from the spirited Rapunzel and her charming ally, Flynn Rider, on their journey to see the floating lights.

- Pittsburgh Beerfest, Feb. 23, 6:30-11 p.m.; Feb. 24, 12-4:30 p.m. and 6:30-11:30 p.m., David L. Lawrence Convention Center, Downtown.
Breweries and beer enthusiasts from across the region will gather on two evenings for an unlimited sampling of fresh craft beers of all styles and tastes and fun. The event benefits Animal Rescue Partners, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting numerous animal rescues, pet adoption groups and community spay/neuter programs in the Pittsburgh area and beyond.

- Bronfman Plays Beethoven, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Feb. 23-24, 8 p.m.; Feb. 25 2:30 p.m., Heinz Hall, Downtown
Superstar pianist Yefim Bronfman joins Manfred Honeck and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra to launch the Beethoven Piano Concerto season cycle. In celebration of the five beloved Concerti that have inspired pianists and audiences alike for more than 200 years, Bronfman, internationally recognized as one of today's most acclaimed and admired artists, will perform the popular Piano Concerto No. 3. Bruckner's towering Symphony No. 9 completes the program.

- “Swan Lake,” Pittsburgh Ballet Theater, Feb. 23, 8 p.m.; Feb. 24, 2, and 8 p.m. and Feb. 25, 2 p.m., Benedum Center, Downtown
An evil enchantment and a mysterious love story give wings to a ballet that has captured the public imagination since 1895. Together with the live PBT Orchestra, PBT returns to “Swan Lake,” which exemplifies classic technique - from the ballet en blanc swan scenes to the Black Swan’s famous 32 fouettés. Set to the stirring themes of Tchaikovsky’s score, the split personalities of Odette and Odile mirror the age-old battle between good and evil.

- Guy Raz, Feb. 24, 8 p.m., Byham Theater, Downtown
Guy Raz is the host, creator, and editorial director of three NPR podcasts, including two of its most popular ones: TED Radio Hour and How I Built This. Both are heard by more than 14 million people each month around the world. Raz also is the creator and co-host of the largest kids podcast, Wow In The World. In 2017, Raz became the first person in the history of podcasting to have three shows in the top 20 on the Apple Podcast charts. Margaret J. Krauss from local Pittsburgh NPR station 90.5 WESA, will interview Guy about his work.
