Pittsburgh's Labor Day Parade 2018: 5 Things You Need To Know
One of the nation's largest parades honoring labor's contributions to the country will be held here.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Pittsburgh will give the summer a spectacular send-off with the annual Labor Day Parade on Sept. 3 sponsored by the Allegheny County Labor Council. Here are five things you should know about this traditional event that dates back more than a century:
1. The parade will begin at Centre Avenue and Crawford Street near PPG Paints Arena, proceed down Sixth Avenue to Grant Street and then make a right turn onto the Boulevard of the Allies. It will end at the United Steelworkers of America Building, where the reviewing stand will be located.
2. The parade begins at 10 a.m., rain or shine, and ends around noon.
3. Pittsburgh has one of the nation's largest Labor Day parades. Parade officials have said the event previously has attracted between 60,000 and 70,000 participants.

4. Former Vice President Joe Biden will be the parade’s special guest of honor.
“I’m looking forward to spending Labor Day this year in Pittsburgh with thousands of men and women from organized labor. Unions built the middle class, and union members built this country,” he said in a release.

Elected officials expected to participate include U.S. Sen. Bob Casey, U.S. Rep. Conor Lamb, U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto and Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald.
5. According to History.com, Pittsburgh held one of the nation's first Labor Day parades back in 1882. The event hasn't been staged every year since then, but has occurred annually since 1984.
