PITTSBURGH, PA — President Joe Biden will be in Pittsburgh next week to celebrate the nation's workers at the city's annual Labor Day parade.

Specifics on Biden's visit are not yet clear, but the White House said in a statement that the visit to the event, one of the oldest of its kind in the nation, was part of a trip to celebrate "the dignity of American workers." The president will also visit Milwaukee on Labor Day.

Local labor leaders said they welcomed Biden.

"The fact that so many national and international leaders choose to come here, year after year, is a testament to the working men and women of organized labor in western Pennsylvania," Allegheny-Fayette Central Labor Council President Darrin Kelly said in a statement. "President Biden has always been a true friend to organized labor and we can't wait to see him."

Democratic gubernatorial nominee John Fetterman's campaign reportedly told a reporter from Politico that Fetterman, the former mayor of nearby Braddock, would also be in attendance.
