Steelers Lose First 2022 Free Agent To NFC Team
A productive member of the Steelers is headed elsewhere. It's the team's first free agency loss of the offseason.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Steelers wide receiver and return specialist Ray-Ray McCloud has signed a two year deal with the San Francisco 49ers, ESPN reported.
McCloud led the NFL with 367 punt return yards last year and also caught 39 passes for 277 yards. After JuJu Smith-Schuster was injured, McCloud became a favorite target of recently retired quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
McCloud, 25, spent the last two seasons with the Steelers. He was a sixth-round pick of the Buffalo Bills out of Clemson and also has played for the Carolina Panthers.

With wide receiver James Washington not expected to return and Smith-Schuster exploring free agency, the Steelers appear to be precariously thin at wide receiver after Diontae Johnson. McCloud's departure virtually assures the Steelers will use a high pick in next month's NFL draft on a receiver.
