Steelers Would 'Pounce' On Browns QB Mayfield, Reporter Says
Several sports reporters believe the Steelers could wind up with Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield behind center next season.
PITTSBURGH, PA — The Steelers last week signed former number two overall NFL Draft pick Mitchell Trubisky to play quarterback next season in the wake of Ben Roethlisberger's retirement. Could they soon add a former number one pick as well?
A reporter covering the Browns believes the Steelers would sign the Cleveland Browns' Baker Mayfield if the Browns end up cutting him. Mayfield, the first pick in the 2018 draft, is on the trading block after the Browns acquired quarterback DeShaun Watson in a blockbuster trade last week.
“The Steelers will pounce on Baker Mayfield if he becomes available,”Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com said on the latest "Orange and Brown Talk" podcast.. “Like if they cut him and he’s just out there, they would take him in a minute. And I’m sure a lot of people would.”

Fox Sports' Nick Wright listed 10 possible landing spots for Mayfield, and the Steelers were behind only the New York Giants as the likeliest home for the quarterback next season - even if via a trade.
"I know people are going to respond and say ‘oh, Nick you have the Steelers that high, the Browns would never trade within the division," Wright said.

"If the Browns think that Baker is a child, and not an adult in the room, they should want him to go to a division rival. If you are that out, you should want him as close as possible, like a double-agent, destroying the Steelers from inside. Trubisky is not the answer (for Pittsburgh)."
In addition to Trubisky, the Steelers have Mason Rudolph and Dwayne Haskins on the roster at quarterback.
