Suzie McConnell-Serio Out As Pitt Women's Basketball Coach

The Pittsburgh native had coached at Pitt for the past five seasons.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Last month, the University of Pittsburgh fired men’s basketball coach Kevin Stallings. On Thursday, Pitt dismissed Suzie McConnell-Serio, its women’s basketball coach, after five seasons.

McConnell-Serio compiled a 67-87 overall record and 22-58 mark in the Atlantic Coast Conference during her tenure.

"We thank Coach McConnell-Serio for her contributions to Pitt and wish her the very best in her future endeavors," Pitt athletic director Heather Lyke said in a statement. "In finding the next leader of our women's basketball program, I believe this is an opportunity that will attract interest from across the country. We are wholeheartedly committed to building Pitt women's basketball into a contender both in the ACC and nationally."

McConnell-Serio, 51, coached at Duquesne University for six seasons before taking the Pitt job. She also has coached the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA and Oakland Catholic High School.

A Pittsburgh native, McConnell-Serio attended Seton-LaSalle High School and led the LAdy Rebels to the PIAA state championship in 1984.
