PENNSYLVANIA — Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday slammed a Pennsylvania GOP gubernatorial candidate who did not do enough to back his baseless claims of election fraud. Trump called Bill McSwain, the former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania that he appointed to the position "a coward who let our country down."

McSwain, who is attempting to win the Republican nomination in hopes of succeeding outgoing Gov. Tom Wolf, had sought the former president's endorsement and has tied himself to Trump in campaign commercials.

In a release, Trump said, "Without free and fair elections, we don't have a country. Do not vote for Bill McSwain...He knew what was happening and let it do. It was there for the taking and he failed so badly."

Trump has not endorsed any of the numerous candidates for governor. But on Monday, he backed celebrity physician Mehmet Oz for the U.S. Senate about to be vacated by the retiring Pat Toomey.
