Woman Dies After 'Medical Incident' At Allegheny County Jail
Officials said the woman was taken to jail Friday on a felony possession charge. She died Saturday morning.
PITTSBURGH, PA — A woman died Friday night after experiencing what authorities called a "medical incident" at the Allegheny County Jail.
According to county officials, the 53-year-old woman was brought into the jail on a felony possession charge. On Saturday around 7:30 a.m., officials said she experienced a medical incident in the jail's intake department.
Jail staff provided aid until paramedics arrived, officials said, but the woman died shortly before 8 a.m.

Officials did not release the woman's identity.
"We offer our condolences to the deceased and their family,” Acting Warden Shane Dady said in a statement. “We have invested time and effort to assess our processes in intake and throughout the facility to identify and provide care to those who are most vulnerable. We will continue striving to provide the best possible care to our residents.”

The investigation was turned over to the county police and officials will conduct an internal review, the county said.
The victim's name, as well as the cause and manner of death, will be released by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner.
