📰 News we're reading

1. Plum Republican focuses on affordability in her bid to unseat 4-term state Rep. Brandon Markosek (triblive.com) — A Plum resident, Republican Amy Noone, is challenging four-term state Rep. Brandon Markosek this November, arguing that rising costs are squeezing local families and businesses along Route 286 in Plum. Both candidates say they're focused on economic issues, but differ on whether current efforts are delivering enough development and tax relief for the 25th Legislative District, which includes part of Plum.

2. Trib HSSN high school football player of the week for 2026 Week 3 (triblive.com) — Plum football fans have reason to cheer as senior quarterback John Nonnenberg has led the Mustangs to a perfect start, including a 49-0 rout of Fox Chapel with five touchdown passes. His 11 scoring throws in three games are powering Plum's early-season surge and putting the team in the regional spotlight as one of the hottest offenses around.

3. 12 arrested in takedown of statewide convenience shop drug op: AG (alliednews.com) — A major drug trafficking investigation reached directly into Plum, where authorities raided a warehouse they say helped supply illegal THC products to gas stations and smoke shops statewide. Officials seized millions of dollars and more than 150,000 products, warning that the candy-like packaging and inconsistent potency posed particular risks for teenagers across Pennsylvania, including those in nearby schools.

4. Plum Borough Council passes resolution to encourage state leaders to protect residents from rent increases at manufactured home communities (wtae.com) — Plum Borough Council has unanimously backed Clover Commons residents by passing a resolution urging state lawmakers to cap steep rent hikes in manufactured home communities. The move supports seniors facing jumps from $722 to $800 a month and presses Harrisburg to advance House Bill 1250, which would tie annual increases to inflation and could influence similar protections in neighboring communities.
