• Sakolsky Forest: Retired Plum teacher returns to Chinese forest nearly 30 years after donation (wtae.com) — A retired Plum Borough School District teacher has returned to China nearly three decades after helping fund what became the 50,000-tree Sakolsky Forest, and he's now sharing that experience from his Plum home. His story of environmental cooperation with Chinese partner Yin Yuzhen has drawn international attention, and he's using it to encourage local schools to revive teacher exchanges and inspire students to plant trees.
   

• Tennis standout reaches 100 wins (bphawkeye.org) — A standout high school tennis player has reached an impressive 100 career wins while leading her team into another deep postseason run. Local fans will see Plum represented when the Mustangs face the No. 2-seeded Black Hawks in the WPIAL team tournament at BPHS on Oct. 12, with Fisher aiming to carry her momentum into both team and state singles play.
