Something new will be inaugurated in Verner School on Friday, September 5...Blessings in a Backpack.
Blessings in a Backpack is a non-profit organization that partners with local communities to feed elementary school children who qualify and are at risk of having little or no food during the weekends. Every Friday for the 38 weeks of the school year these children will go home with a bag of staples that require little or no preparation.
Debbie McCarthy, of West Railroad Avenue, is the chairman of this program in Verona. She has jumped all the hoops, filled in and filed all the paper work, spoken to the necessary administrators, and obtained backing from area businesses to get this project running. Now all she needs is us to help with the project.
