Favorites Friday: The Right Stuff

Having the right tools in the kitchen saves money and frustration!

by Erin at SlimSavers.com

I love our refrigerator! L-O-V-E IT! What’s funny about that is my husband picked it out. His reason? “Because I don’t want to have to look behind stuff.”

It’s giant– not as giant as the one we originally looked at, but it’s the biggest we could fit in the kitchen. It’s 48″ (including the freezer) of bright shelf space. It’s glorious.

I can fit so many things in there, and I don’t have to worry about space. I can make a big bowl of salad and have a spot for it. I can store cut -up veggies, organize leftovers, and put whole trays of food (or a box of pizza…ahem) right in there. My parents had a tiny fridge so I remember the days of splitting things up in different containers to fit it all in. Forget about having party trays in that one…not gonna happen!

I’m not suggesting everyone go out and get a fridge like mine (but you can! That would be great!). What I am saying is that it’s so, SO important you have the right tools available to you when you’re cooking healthy (or doing anything, actually). Whether that’s a vegetable peeler that smoothly and quickly does the job on a carrot (and not your fingers) or a food processor that whips something up for the whole family at once. Nothing is more frustrating in the kitchen than not having the right tool for the job.

So, while I DO want you to save money, I encourage you to find the right stuff (on sale!). Prepping, cooking, and anything else you’re going to do will be SO much better with the right tools. Plus, using the right stuff will save you money in the long run. You’ll have less waste (with proper prep tools and storage), cook things correctly (with nice cookware and reliable kitchen timer), and serve up food you and other will want to eat!

Erin and Joline, both health and wellness junkies, spent many years pinning down the truths about eating healthy and inexpensively. Both feel the it’s-too-expensive-to-eat-healthy excuse is untrue and infuriating.
