The Merry, Merry Month of May

May activities and events at a glance. Includes: concerts, art exhibits and sales, movies, and candidates......

May as per usual is a busy, busy month, but with fun, family, and interesting activities.  Below are just a few of the “doings” in May in Verona.  Mark up your calendar so you won’t forget something you wanted to do.

The month starts off with an Artists’ reception on Saturday, May 4 from 6 to 9 pm in the Boulevard Gallery located at 736 Allegheny River Blvd.  The theme this month is “Travels Behind The Lens.”  Mary Beth Kratsas (photographer) and Aldrich Jenkins (mixed media) will be featured as will Ted Scanga (woodcrafter).  Regular Gallery hours are Friday and Saturdays from 12 – 4 pm

New to Verona, the Creative Marketplace begins its one-a-month outdoor market for the sale of arts and crafts on Sunday, May 5.  The plan is to hold the Creative Marketplace on the first Sunday of each month from May until September from 10 am to 4 pm in Verona Municipal Park on East Railroad Avenue. There will be live music and food kiosks.

Thursday, May 9 the Concert in the Park series gets underway and gives everyone a chance to set up their easy chair, bring some snacks, and lean back and enjoy.  The first concert will present “Charlie Hustle & the Grifters.”  The concert starts at 7 pm at the Gazebo in Verona Municipal Park.  Dress appropriately for the weather and bring your folding chair!

Mothers’ Day is celebrated Sunday, May 12.  Be sure you remember your Mother with kind deeds, flowers, poems you wrote, and special remembrances.

Saturday, May 18 is Armed Forces Day.

Tuesday, May 21 is Election Day.  It’s your turn to have a say in who will represent your party and how our borough is run and who is running it.  VOTE!!!  Vote only once, but make it a well thought out vote!

The “Movies in the Park” series will open with “Ice Age Continental Drift” on Friday, May 31 at dusk in Verona Municipal Park by the Gazebo.  This is a family oriented affair and movies will usually be rated “G” or “PG.”  “Movies in the Park” is held outside so wear appropriate clothing and bring a blankets and/or folding chairs.

In the meantime, remember Verona is part of the Bike Share Program.  Go on down to Dirty Harry’s (412-828-2667) on Allegheny Blvd. and find out what Bike Share is all about…I can tell you that it is FREE!
