Doyle, Markosek to Face Off in November

Mike Doyle beat John Yakim for the Republican nomination for state representative of the 25th Legislative District.

Plum Councilman will face off with state Rep. Joe Markosek once more during the general election in November.

On Tuesday, Doyle won the Republican nomination for state representative of the 25th Legislative District, which covers Plum Borough.

Doyle beat of Monroeville by 482 votes. Doyle received 53 percent of the votes  in Allegheny County and 65 percent in Westmoreland County. Yakim received 46 percent of the votes in Allegheny and 34 percent in Westmoreland. These results are unofficial and will become official upon certification by the Allegheny County Board of Elections.

Doyle said Yakim was a very good opponent.

"He had an army out there working for him at the polls," Doyle said. "He ran a good campaign, and I give him all the credit in the world."

Yakim said that though he is disappointed, the whole experience was humbling.

"I am not disappointed I tried," he said. "I think it's important the party has a candidate because elections should be about choices. I had a lot of people thank me just for running because they had a choice."

This will be Doyle's second time running against Markosek. In 2010, he lost the general election by 1,600 votes.

Doyle said he's happy to have a second shot.

"I am thrilled to have the nomination," he said. "I look forward to running against Joe in the fall again."
