New Owner Chosen for Mystery Lovers Bookshop

Laurie Miller Stephens of Dallas, TX, will head the Oakmont bookshop. She will be introduced to the community tonight during the Festival of Mystery.

Laurie Miller Stephens of Dallas, TX, has been chosen by current owners Richard Goldman and Mary Alice Gorman to run the well-known community bookshop.

Stephens will be introduced to the community during the y tonight, Monday.

According to an announcement made by Goldman and Gorman, Stephens is a highly-informed reader of mystery books with a knowledge of bookstore operations and love of children’s books.

Goldman and Gorman announced they would be and retiring on Feb. 14 after . Following the announcement, they interviewed 13 people before deciding on Stephens.

“We want to welcome the new face of Mystery Lovers Bookshop, Laurie Stephens," Goldman said. "Laurie has a terrific background as a bookseller, librarian and director of a lecture series. Most importantly, owning a bookstore has been a life-long dream for her, and we know something about that.”

As Head of the Arts & Letters Live literary series at the Dallas Museum of Art in Stephens is responsible for overseeing more than 35 events a year featuring nationally known authors.

"She's the whole package," Gorman said.

After signing an agreement of sale on Sunday, April 29, Stephens will move to the Pittsburgh area to run the store and be closer to her daughter, who lives in Highland Park. Goldman and Gorman will stay around for a smooth transition throughout the summer. Then, they're off to travel and spend time with their children and grandchildren.
