Obituaries – Louis V. Olive, Sr. and Gilbert Brenes, MD

Louis V. Olive, Sr., of the Rosedale section of Penn Hills, passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013, at the age of 79.

Louis was the son of the late Victor and Mary (Amato) Olive.  He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Olive; dear husband for 13 years of Daneen (Babich) Olive; loving father of Louis V. (Cami) Oliva, Jr., Mark A. (Sangwan Thumrin) Olive, Christian P. (Carol) Olive, Laura Vaccaro (Dr. Ricardo Hernandez), and Pamela (Jack) Balson; father-in-law of Lori Olive; grandfather of Victoria, Jessica, Alexander, Anthony, Alexis, and Matthew; brother of Victor “Brother” (Rose) Olive and the late Natalie Tolino, and Patricia Ruggiero; brother-in-law of Dee Dee Olive. 

Mr. Olive enjoyed golfing and was the past proprietor for many years of Deluca Lanes in East Liberty.

Friends and relatives will be received at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont on Saturday, July 6, 2013 from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 8, 2013 at 12 pm in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Verona.

Gilbert Brenes, MD, of Cheswick, PA, died on July 2, 2013, at the age of 78.

A dedicated physician for more than 40 years, he served as Medical Director of the Spinal Cord Injury Program at Harmarville Rehabilitation Center from 1976-2005. Beginning in 2006, he moved to UPMC Mercy Institute of Rehabilitation where he continued to treat patients. Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Brenes was the recipient of numerous awards, active in clinical research and a contributor to medical journals.

He was an active supporter and board member of the HOPE Network, a non-profit organization that promotes community integration of people with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions through sports and recreation programs and services.

The youngest of ten siblings, he is survived by wife, Diane Erdelack Brenes, and step-children, Leslie and Kevin Erdelack. He is the father through a previous marriage (Grace Brenes) to Ivan (Sayumi) Brenes of Kobe, Japan, and Kathia (Charles) Kennedy of Pittsburgh, PA; proud grandfather of Gracie and Alex Kennedy, and Nina and Ami Brenes. 

Friends and relatives will be received on Saturday, July 6, 2013 and Sunday, July 7, 2013 from 2-9 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont.  (412) 828-3535.  Mass of Christian Burial Monday, July 8, 2013, 11 a.m., St. Richard Catholic Church, 3841 Dickey Road, Gibsonia, 15044.
