Obituary - Ellen Saylor Lewis

Ellen Saylor Lewis, a lifelong resident of Oakmont, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 13, 2013, at the age of 88. 

Mrs. Lewis was born in Vandergrift, PA on January 28, 1925, the daughter of the late Raymond B. and Edith Butler Saylor.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Dr. Robert E. Lewis; sister Anna Betty Gibson and daughter Anne Lewis.  Ellen is survived by her daughters, Virginia O'Hare (Jack) of Pittsburgh and Marie Lewis (Tom Conroy) of Plum, and son Thomas Lewis of Oakmont;  five grandchildren, Jayne DiEmidio of Savannah, GA; Alison DiEmidio of NYC, Holly DiEmidio of Plum, Robert DiEmidio of Verona, and Merit O'Hare of NJ.  Mrs. Lewis is also survived by a niece, Carol Orlock, of Port Townsend, WA.

Ellen was a graduate of Oakmont High School, class of 1942 and Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham College), class of 1946.  She was devoted to her family, friends and community and served in various capacities with many Oakmont organizations including the Junior Women's Club, Woman's Club of Oakmont, Oakmont Garden Club, Oakmont Methodist Church and The Shadyside Hospital Auxiliary serving as President from 1984-1986.  She was a member of the Oakmont Country Club and enjoyed her volunteer work in past years during two U.S. Opens.  Ellen was an enthusiastic bridge player and belonged to several groups throughout Oakmont.

Friends will be received on Saturday, November 16, 2013 from 2-6 pm in the English Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 378 Maryland Avenue, Oakmont, PA, 15139.  Funeral service and interment will be private.
