Obituary - Jacob G. “Jake” Cappa

Jacob G. “Jake” Cappa, 68 of Oakmont, affectionately known as “Coach” to many, passed away on Memorial Day morning, May 26, 2014, at the age of 68. 

Jake was the beloved husband for 48 years of Lois (Pecora) Cappa; loving father of John M. Cappa, Jason L. Cappa, Jeff A. (Nicki) Cappa, and the late Jacob M. Cappa; grandfather of Jacob A., Alyssa, Jeffrey, Matthew, and John G. Capp; brother of Audrey (the late David) DeMarco and Donna (Tom) Dolde.  He is also survived by his four legged friend, Ontwo. 

Jake graduated from Connellsville High School and was a member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Oakmont.  He had two years of coaching at the Verona High School, followed by35 years of teaching at Riverview High School including 20 years as the athletic director, and was the head football coach from 1986 to 2001.

Friends and relatives will be received on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC., 421 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont from 3-8 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 30, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 387 Maryland Avenue, Oakmont, 15139.  EVERYONE PLEASE MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH. 

The family strongly suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to St. Margaret’s Oncology, 200 Delafield Road, Suite 3050, Pittsburgh, 15215 or Spina Bifida Association of Western Pennsylvania, 1158 Dutilh Road, Mars, PA 16046.
