Obituary - John R. Lucas

John R. Lucas, 64 of Apollo, passed away in his home on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the age of 64. 

John was the beloved husband of Sherri (Stumpf) Lucas for 25 years; loving father of Chelsea R. Lucas, Tammy Blodgett, and Terri Lucas; brother of Paula Lucas, Peter (Sharon) Lucas, Paul (Evelyn “Evie”) Lucas, Joe Lucas, and Rose (Steve) Saller; son-in-law of Clifford Stumpf and the late Wilma Stumpf.  He is also survived by two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

John served in the Marines for four years serving one tour in Vietnam.  After serving in the Marines, he had 17 years of active duty with the Army, retiring as First Sergeant.  His decorations within his service to our country include:  Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Civil Action Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (Awarded 4 times), Army Commendation Medal (Awarded 6 times), Army Good Conduct Medal (Awarded 6 times), Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (Awarded 2 times), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Development Ribbon (Awarded 3 times), Overseas Service Ribbon (Awarded 3 times), Army Service Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Expert Qualification Badge M-16 rifle, and Expert Qualification Badge .45 Caliber Pistol.

After John's retirement from the Armed Forces, he had 18 years of service as an electronic technician for the US Postal Service.  He enjoyed electronics and the challenge it gave to him.  John attended Riverside Community Church in Oakmont. 

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a service with military honors at Greenwood Memorial Park Chapel, 104 Melwood Road, New Kensington, PA  15068 on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 1 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to Riverside Community Church, 401 Allegheny Avenue, Oakmont, PA  15139 or Military Connections, 312 Auburn St. Pittsburgh, PA  15235.
