Obituary - James S. Ferguson

Obituary

James S. Ferguson, of Verona, passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2014, at the age of 75.
Jim was the much loved husband , of 50 years, of Kathi (Niesemann) Ferguson; father of Jim (Debbie) Ferguson, and Fred Ferguson; grandfather of Steven Ferguson, brother in-law of Tedda Niesemann Howard (Stan); nieces Agnes Howard; Erin Frank (Rusty) Anderson, Michelle Hughes, Mary Beth Frank (Dave) Del Pino; and nephew Sean (Anita) Frank; and nine grandnieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents James S. Ferguson and Mary Ferguson and twin sister Barbara Ferguson (Nevil) Frank.

Jim graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and then worked at Westinghouse as a non-destructive inspector for 28 years. During his Westinghouse years he also took time out to join the army for six months and later joined the Air National Guard, serving his country for a total number of 20 years.

Jim was active in his community by serving on the Verona Zoning Hearing Board and managed the Pirates Little League Baseball Team for several years. Jim was active with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and became a trainer for Cub Scout leaders.

Jim was a Deacon at the former Riverside Presbyterian Church, Oakmont and was an original recycler by collecting tons of glass with his sons and a few other church volunteers.

Jim also enjoyed sports car racing and earned his SCCA license in Marlboro, MD during one rainy weekend. He later became a timer and scorer for the Vintage Car Races held in Schenley Park.

Friends and relatives are invited to a Memorial Service on September 28, 2014 at 2 pm in Oakmont Presbyterian Church at Pennsylvania and Fifth Street, Oakmont.

Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to Verona Historical Society, 636 Third Avenue, Verona, PA, 15147.
