Obituary - Lia (DeBartolomeis) DiPietro

Lia (DeBartolomeis) DiPietro, of Oakmont, formerly of Indianola, went to the Lord peacefully on Friday, July 13, 2012

Lia (DeBartolomeis) DiPietro, of Oakmont, formerly of Indianola, went to the Lord peacefully on Friday, July 13, 2012, at the age of 80. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Lia was the beloved wife of the late Frank DiPietro; loving mother of Lisa (Vince) Fischetti, Sandy (Bob) Gentilcore, and David (Kelli) DiPietro, all of Oakmont; sister of Gabriele and Galileo DeBartolomeis, Pia DiPietro, Maria Trentadue and the late Assuntina Cocchini and Evelina DiPietro; Nonna of Valerie and Andrew Gentilcore, and Gianfranco, Dante and Gabriella DiPietro; and a spiritual mother and guide to many.

Lia was born in Sant Omero, Italy. She was a dedicated and a lifelong active member of the Catholic Church. She served St. Irenaeus Parish in Oakmont as a Eucharistic Minister, on Parish Council and the Pro Life Committee. Formerly of St. Francis and St. Timothy parish in Indianola, she shared her love of the Lord in CCD for 30 years at St. Timothy and with her husband was active in the Cursillo Movement and Marriage Encounter. She also volunteered for Presbyterian Senior Care, Meals on Wheels, Richland AARP and at Health South (Harmarville Rehabilitation).

Lia was very proud of her Italian heritage. A member of the ISDA, St. Jude Lodge, she enjoyed teaching Italian to adults and children. She was called home on the 13th, which to some is an unlucky number, but to Lia and some Italians, it is a lucky number. Lia was a longtime postal service employee, serving Russellton, Indianola and retiring from the Verona Post Office in 1996.

Friends and relatives may visit from 6 to 8 pm Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Monday at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 am Tuesday at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 387 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, with Father Frank Kurimsky officiating.
