
Michael J. Karkowsky, of Plum Borough, passed away on October 28, 2014, at the age of 81.
Michael was born in Windber, PA on June 14, 1933 to the late Michael and Anna Karkowsky. A graduate of Windber High School, Mike went on to serve his country in the Marine Corps and then finally went onto Indiana University to pursue a career in art education. He taught art at Penn Hills High School until he retired in 1990.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Sara Karkowsky; four sons, Michael Karkowsky, Christopher (Jo Ann) Karkowsky, Greg (Jackie) Karkowsky, Martin (Missy) Karkowsky; and one daughter, Lisa (Larry) Keefer, and sister, Katie Barron. Besides being an avid art lover, Mike’s true love was for his grandchildren; Christopher, Nicholas, Connor, and Michael Karkowsky.
Friends and relatives will be received on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION & ALTERNATIVE SERVICES, INC. 421 Allegheny Ave. Oakmont. A blessing service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014, 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery with military honors.
