Our Winners Are Off To See 'The Nutcracker'

A local mother-daughter duo will be enjoying a performance of the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre's production of the Christmas classic, "The Nutcracker."

Plum-Oakmont Patch reader Melissa Shontz uploaded a photo of her daughter, Maggie Ruth Marchese, with a nutcracker for Patch's "Nutcracker Ballet" contest. Her photo was randomly chosen by our staff as the Plum-Oakmont winner.

"She saw a friend's recital of a modern version of the nutcracker and has been dancing around with our nutcrackers in our living room," Shontz said.

Shontz, who owns a home in Oakmont, said she's excited to experience the ballet with Maggie, 7.

"Being able to take my daughter to the PBT Nutcracker is a huge gift," she said. "My mom took me to see the PBT Nutcracker at Heinz Hall when I was 16 and I will never forget it—the beauty of the hall, the elegance of the performance and being with my mom."
