Pittsburgh Police Officer, Riverview Grad Shot

Pittsburgh police officer Morgan Jenkins, a 1997 Riverview grad, is in critical condition.

A City of Pittsburgh police officer with ties to the Twin Boros is in critical condition after being shot early Thursday.

According to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, officer Morgan Jenkins, 33, was shot by James R. Hill, 24, of Homewood after he and his partner attempted to stop his vehicle near North Lang and Upland streets at 1:30 a.m.

Jenkins, an Oakmont/Verona native and a 1997 Riverview High School graduate, was shot in the shoulder and another bullet went under his vest. He underwent surgery at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital and remains in critical condition.

Hill, who also was shot during the exchange and is in the hospital in serious condition, faces several charges including fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, aggravated assault, criminal attempt-criminal homicide, carrying a firearm without a license, and drug and traffic violations.
