Collision on Plum Border Causes Power Outages
Power is out in areas of Plum due to a transformer explosion.
Large areas of Plum were blacked out on Monday due to a collision.
Police are reporting a car struck a utility pole on Universal Road, causing a transformer explosion.
The car appeared to have been traveling east, in the direction of Plum from Penn Hills, when it struck the pole head-on shortly before 1 p.m.

The car is heavily damaged. The injuries of the driver and possible passengers still are unknown.

Center and Pivik elementary schools were without power but operated on a normal schedule, according to school district administration.
The schools' normal computer and telephone services, however, were unavailable.
Many businesses were without power in the area, including those on Route 380. Universal Road is closed west of 380.
The power to most Plum residents has been restored as of 8 p.m. Monday.
