Riverview Softball Pounds Springdale, Angers Fans
The Raiders explode offensively, winning 32-0
Riverview’s softball team defeated Springdale on Friday, but the outcome of the game was not the big story. The Raiders pounded their opponent 32-0, resulting in the game concluding after only three innings due to the mercy rule.
Springdale, which has yet to win a game this season, has suffered many lopsided defeats on the year, including a 20-0 loss at the hands of Riverview less than two weeks ago. During this game however, many of the players were visible discouraged, and their fans and parents seemed outraged.
After a scoreless first inning, the Raiders scored 18 runs in the second inning, pounding out 14 hits, and taking advantage of several defensive miscues by Springdale. With the result a foregone conclusion at the start of the third inning, Riverview continued the offensive onslaught, which drew the ire of many spectators.

Several parents loudly questioned what they deemed to be aggressive base running throughout the lengthy inning. Frustration also set in amongst the Springdale players, as some of them explicitly expressed their displeasure with the way their opponents played. The inning finally concluded when Springdale noticed that the Raiders inadvertently batted out of order, thus resulted in an automatic third out.
Raiders head coach Joe Dalsass defended his team, explaining, “I told them to be selective on pitches and we were hitting the ball hard. We got in a rhythm after the first inning. It’s hard to tell a girl to let up.”

Every girl in the Raiders lineup enjoyed a success day at the plate, as four different players produced four-hit games. Amanda Loeffler belted five RBI’s, while Ashley Brvini reached base in all of her five at-bats.
With the win, Riverview finishes its conference schedule with a 8-4 record, 10-4 overall on the season. The Raiders look to continue their offensive momentum as they travel to Apollo-Ridge on Monday.
