SAMPSON FAMILY YMCA ACCEPTING NEW PARTICIPANTS IN DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM
YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program helps people reduce their risk of type 2 diabetes by up to 58 percent
The YMCA is urging any residents of Plum, Murrysville, Delmont, Oakmont, Harrison City and Monroeville who are at risk of developing type 2 diabetes to sign up for its fall Diabetes Prevention Program at the Sampson Family YMCA. Classes begin on August 12 at 6 p.m. New participants may join until September 6.
The YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program is a lifestyle intervention program that helps people at risk for developing type 2 diabetes reduce their risk by adopting healthy habits to increase physical activity and lose a modest amount of weight.
The 12-month program begins with 19 weekly core sessions, followed by 6 monthly maintenance sessions. Based on a study by the National Institutes of Health, the program reduces the risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 58%.

Beginning on August 12, the group will meet once a week on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. for 16 weeks at the Sampson Family YMCA at 2200 Golden Mile Highway, Pittsburgh, PA 15239. Subsidies are available to anyone who may need financial assistance for the program.
