Verona Council Notebook: July Voting Meeting
A roundup of things discussed at the July 12 meeting.

Here’s a look at some of the items discussed at the July 12 Verona Council regular meeting:
Building Inspector Asked to Resign
Verona Council will request borough building inspector Mike Snyder to resign.
Councilwoman Sandra Drabicki-Bell said Snyder, who also works as a building inspector in Millvale, hasn't been returning phone calls, has trouble coming in on Saturdays—when he is scheduled to work—and has failed to update the borough database, a job that should have been complete in April.
Drabicki-Bell said Snyder has been with the borough as a part-timer for about five years, and the problems have been ongoing for the last year or so.
Officials unanimously—with Stan Adamski absent—agreed to make the request.
Recycling Grant
Drabicki-Bell said officials are working on obtaining recycling grants through the state.
The borough would receive $10 per ton of paper and aluminum recycled, she said.
Tot Lot Project
Work on the Riverbank Park tot lot project has begun and should be completed by next week, according to borough engineer Larry Seiler.
The borough received a $20,000 grant from the county health department for the project and hired Sports & Recreation to complete the work.
Borough Considers Selling Property
Officials are considering selling a borough-owned property—535 East Railroad Avenue.
Councilwoman Rhoda Gemellas-Worf said the property used to be owned by Guardian Angel Ambulance. There is a garage on the property.
Officials are going to appraise the value of the property before agreeing to solicit bids.
