What Happened to Baby Jesus?

The manger is empty, and Oakmont resident Mark Gleeson wants to see baby Jesus returned.

At Oakmont Borough Council meeting, resident Mark Gleeson told council that the baby Jesus was missing, and presumably stolen, from the nativity scene in the holiday display on Fifteenth Street between Oak Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Though Gleeson’s comments were initially met with a few chuckles from both the audience and council, the mood swiftly shifted to a more solemn one when Gleeson continued his address to council.

“This is the second year that baby Jesus has been stolen,” said Gleeson. “It may sound like a humorous type of thing … but somewhere in this town two baby Jesus are now sitting.”

Gleeson went on to liken the current situation to the petty theft of street signs and vandalism of schools, describing such things as prevalent pranks by local youth in and around the area some two decades ago.

Councilwoman asked Gleeson if he was sure that baby Jesus was included in the display this year, to which Gleeson replied in the affirmative.

Gleeson pointed out that baby Jesus was the only thing missing from the display. “Everything else is still there,” he said.

Oakmont Police Chief David DiSanti said that he had seen in a report that baby Jesus was missing.

Discussion on this topic ended with Gleeson kindly asking council and the media to call for baby Jesus’ return.
