Woman Charged with Stealing from Scholarship In Memory of Former Plum Football Player

Murrysville woman accused of taking money from scholarship fund for high school student-athletes.

A Murrysville woman is charged with making numerous transactions from bank accounts holding funds from a scholarship established in memory of former Plum football player Jeff Boynton.

Rachelle Dever, 54, former classmate of Boynton, is accused of making 24 transactions from two accounts, according to TribLive.com. She is charged with access-device fraud and theft by unlawful taking.

David Derry, one of the fund’s administrators, reported to police that an estimated $17,750 was taken from the fund. Dever, however, told police that $15,850 was repaid, which was supported by documents, according to TribLive.com.

The fund has awarded two scholarships to student-athletes as part of former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward’s “Positive Athlete Pittsburgh”, which showcases high school athletes. TribLive.com reports that despite the money taken by Dever, the fund will still be able to award two scholarships in 2015.

Dever will be arraigned on Jan. 13.
