PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — The man who police say killed a North Carolina basketball coach was captured near the Plymouth Meeting Mall after being tracked with Flock cameras.
Rickey Andra Harper, 60, has been charged with first degree murder.
An investigation began in Raleigh, North Carolina on Thursday, Aug. 13 when family of Sheremy Gwenette Dillard told police they had not heard from her.
Dillard, a popular teacher and girls basketball coach, lived at a home on 2201 Whistling Straits Ways in Raleigh with Harper, her boyfriend.
Police found Dillard dead from stab wounds in the home. Harper was not there.
Using Flock cameras, Raleigh police traced Harper to the Courtyard Marriot Hotel, on 651 Fountain Road in Plymouth Township.
Plymouth Township police surveilled the area and eventually traced Harper's van to the mall. They found Harper walking toward his vehicle and tried to take him into custody, but he "immediately became confrontational," and refused to surrender or show his hands, police said.
While police tried to de-escalate, Harper yelled and encouraged them to shoot him, according to authorities.
Eventually Harper tried to flee but was quickly captured, police said.
He was booked at Montgomery County Correctional Facility and is awaiting an extradition hearing back to North Carolina.
