PLYMOUTH TOWNSHIP, PA — A search and rescue training exercise will be held in Plymouth Township this week, officials said in a public advisory and notice, assuring local residents to not be alarmed.
The event will take place on Thursday and Friday, Oct. 22 and 23, from about noon to 4 p.m. each day.
Specifically, the areas and neighborhoods around Colwell Lane and Colwell Park will be used.
The training will involve "GIS-based damage assessment," which helps emergency managers, municipal leaders, and officials assess damage and coordinate recovery efforts following major weather incidents.
"Residents can expect to see US&R specialists walking through the neighborhoods and emergency vehicles legally parked on neighborhood streets," the advisory states. "All specialists will remain on sidewalks or public property and will not encroach on any private property during the training exercise."
The Montgomery County Urban Search and Rescue Team and the Plymouth Township Emergency Management Division will join specialists from around southeastern Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, and Delaware, counties for the event.
